The objective of this article is to delineate the conception of education in the Gramscian approach considering its relation with labor and the meaning attributed to the formative process. Firstly, it intends to place Gramsci's pedagogical thinking in a historic point of view, and then to present contributions to the educational field, such as the historic dual system observed in the modality of secondary education.
