Angelo d'Orsi's essay is dedicated to Antonio Gramsci as a journalist during the frst world war. He examines the social and political context in which Gramsci's support of active neutrality, expressed in particular in the Turin Il Grido del Popolo and, from December 1915, in the Turin edition of Avanti!, was rejected by the socialists as an expression of mussolinism and intervention.
