«...As a political strategist & commentator on new social movements, Gramsci had to consider the impact of a political ideology on the political behavior of the masses. Maintenance of ideological hegemony requires constant adjustment & strong societal mechanisms, while change requires the existence of an equally strong opposition to hegemony & strategies of resistance. While such opposition in civil society can be fortified with symbols, as well as actual struggles, both elements are required to effect cultural transformation» (M.P.).
