The Politics of Religion in Plantation Society: A Gramscian Analysis
«The existing research on Gramscian theory contains a dual-faceted omission: (1) There is little discussion of Gramsci's political theory in general or specifically addressing religion or a particular historical situation. (2) The limited research in this area does not consider Gramsci's thoughts on the influence of Christianity on the slave society of the antebellum US.... While slaveholders developed a hegemonic belief system, bonds people responded by creating religious traditions of both accommodation & resistance. Gramscian thought is applied to an analysis of these ideological developments».
