Discourses of Rurality: Loose Talk or Social Struggle?
«Critiques existing usage of the terms "rural" & "rurality," & attempts to plot the implications, & account for the existence, of a multiplicity of meanings.... A productive dialogue is advocated between Gramscian notions of political struggle & poststructuralist concerns with language & meaning. It is suggested that a more adequate explanation of social change should be sensitive to the multiple discourses that constitute reality (urban or rural), & the resources that are mobilized in their favor».
