Introduction (pp. 178-183) to the first letters sent by the abstensionist faction of the PSI, which was organized around the journal, Il Soviet, to the Communist International. The letters in question are dated November 10, 1919 (pp. 183-86); and January 11, 1920 (pp. 186-88) (This second letter was published, with slight changes, by Giuseppe Berti in Lo Stato operaio, December 1934, with the title «Il gruppo del Soviet nella formazione del PCI»).
