«Un patrimonio di tutti». Antonio Gramsci nella cultura italiana dalla sua morte all'Edizione Nazionale degli scritti
After the death of Antonio Gramsci on 27 April 1937, the PCI, especially
through its secretary Palmiro Togliatti, began the celebrations of its greatest leader.
The sense of those celebrations was immediately clear: to show the image of Gram-
sci not as an exclusive militant of the PCI, but as a human, political and cultural
heritage of the entire Italian nation. In this way, and thanks to the publication of
Lettere dal carcere and Quaderni del carcere, Gramsci entered Italian culture and his
Marxist elaboration of the philosophy of praxis became a fundamental component of
the cultural identity of our country. The essay discusses the influence that Gramsci's
analyses have had in Italy on the historical, philosophical and literary culture of the
twentieth century.
