L'état de l'utopie

La question de l'État dans les pensées critiques contemporaines
is part of Revue Française de Socio-Économie , 2 , Paris : Éditions La Découverte , 2015 , pp. 229 - 243
This article aims to understand how the question of the state is dealt with in contemporary critical theories. We start by going back to twentieth-century Marxist theories of the State, especially the approaches of Gramsci and Poulantzas. We then come to the current intellectual conjuncture. Firstly, we address theories of "anti-power," a set of influential theories that focus on the dimension of social power that is external to the State. We then describe the current renewal of Marxist theories of the State, especially in the work of David Harvey, Giovanni Arrighi, and James O'Connor. One important dimension of this renewal is the connection contemporary Marxists establish between the analysis of the State and the issue of the spaces of capitalism.
