Germanetto, Giovanni

Memorie di un barbiere

[Prefazione di Ercoli] a cura di Gian Carlo Pajetta e Palmiro Togliatti
Paris: Edizioni di Coltura sociale, 1931, 403
From Togliatti's preface (dated March, 1931): This is the first Italian edition, but the book "first appeared in Moscow in 1930 in a Russian translation and has already gone through three editions, reaching a total circulation of 110,000 copies. More recently, it has appeared in German translation." The last Italian edition was the ninth which was published in Rome by the Editori Riuniti in 1978 (with a preface by Gian Carlo Pajetta). A footnote of 1962 to the same preface notes that "the editions in the Russian language have risen to 9, of which two are popular and one illustrated; in the Italian language there are 7 editions (one printed in Paris, one in Moscow, and 5 in Italy after the liberation; 3 in the German and English languages; 2 in French, Ukrainian, Polish, and Spanish, and one in Chinese, Czech, Slovak, Bulgarian, Hungarian, Romanian, Byelo-Russian, Hebrew, Tartar, Finnish, Georgian, Dutch, Japanese, Latvian and Esperanto. There are 45 editions in 23 languages with a total of more than a million copies." Cf. idem(Ed. Riuniti, 1962), p.5.
